Question:
Dear e-trailer, I just purchased a 2017 F150, 56inch bed. Looking to carry a mountain bike that has both 29inch and 27.5inch wheel capability with up to a 2.8inch wide tire. The Instigator looks like a good option because: a I can remove it easily when my wife is towing the horse trailer. b Im considering a roll-back tonneau cover and it looks like this would work with it if the cover is rolled back. My question is regarding security: is there any way to prevent someone from detaching the whole rack by the ratchet straps and making off with both bike and rack? Thank you and best regards.

For the Thule Insta-Gater Pro truck bike rack # TH93VR an accessory lock is integrated to allow locking the loaded bike to the rack but this does not secure the rack itself as you noted. To do this I recommend a cost-effective cable lock such as # e98891 that can be routed through the rack tubing and to your truck's tie downs.
You could also use one cable lock to secure the bike to the Insta-Gater, if you prefer not to use Thule's own lock core, and another to secure the rack to the truck's hitch.
