Wire Gauge and Circuit Breaker Required for Brake Controller Isntallation
Question:
When I buy Item # 5535 do I need to buy a connector for it? A connector should be provided with the unit but I can not determine that it is. Second, what gauge wire should be use, and third: should it be fused and what sizeamps?

The Tekonsha BRAKE-EVN Trailer Brake Controller # TK63VR includes a hardwired connector that is intended to connect to a vehicle-specific harness on vehicles that have a direct connection port or to a pigtail # 7894 to allow a hardwired installation in a vehicle that does not have such a connection point under the dash. This pigtail harness is 34-inches long, long enough for most installations.
The black and blue wires on this part are 10-gauge and the others are 12-gauge; butt connectors are included.Both a brake controller's 12V power input and trailer brake output wiring should be 10-gauge.
Brake controller's will require a 30-amp circuit breaker like # PK54530 on their black 12V power input wire.
