How to Install Tow Ready Battery Isolation Solenoid TR118665 to Protect Vehicle Battery

Hey guys Im looking for a battery isolation solenoid that is directional. Im having to power the 12 volt to charge the trailer battery off the same power supply that activates the solenoid. So after you turn the ignition on to activate the solenoid it stays activated cause the trailer battery keeps the solenoid energizing therefore defeating the purpose. Any ideas? My 12 volt from the truck shuts off when the key is off, thats why I use that to switch the solenoid.

The Tow Ready battery isolation solenoid # TR118665 allows controlling the flow of 12V power by switching on and off (closing and opening) based on the presence of a 12V trigger signal at its center terminal. When this terminal receives power this closes the solenoid which makes the connection from the left-hand input terminal through to the right-hand output terminal.

The solenoid will pass the 12V signal ONLY when there is a triggering signal sent to its center terminal. This provides protection for the vehicle battery by allowing power to flow only when you turn the key to the on position.

You will need to install a diode on the downstream side of the isolation solenoid to block the back-feed from the trailer battery. The diode will need to be rated for the amperage capacity of the higher-rated of the two batteries.
