Will Trailer Hitch Increase Tongue Weight Capacity Of 2010 Toyota RAV4

The Curt hitch looks really easy to install. The Draw-tite hitch has a 3rd location to install bolts. The Rav4 has a tongue weight spec of only 150 lbs. Im a little concerned that someone will stand on the hitch for fun. Does the extra bolt location of the Draw tite hitch effectively increase the amount of tongue weight that the Rav4 can tolerate?

The tongue weight of your 2010 RAV4 will not change regardless of the hitch you install on your vehicle. If you have the 2.5L engine you are limited to 150-lbs of tongue weight. If you have the 3.5L engine the tongue weight is increased to 200-lbs if you do not have the tow package and 350-lbs if you have the tow package.

The Draw-Tite hitch # 75235, uses the middle hole in the truck frame to re-attach the tie-down that is removed when installing the hitch. I have attached a link to an installation video for this hitch on a RAV4 and at the 2:19 mark on the video you scan see how they remove the tie-down and that it uses the first and second hole.

The Curt Hitch # C13149 does not have the middle hole like the Draw-Tite and in the installation video for this hitch says the tie-down when removed will not be re-installed.

In my opinion I recommend going with the Draw-Tite hitch because of the tie-down bracket.
