For your 2015 Jeep Patriot, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Receiver Hitch # 75712. This hitch is custom-fit for your Jeep, meaning there will be no drilling required during installation. This hitch will give you a 2 inch receiver opening with a 525 pound tongue weight capacity and a 3,500 pound towing capacity. I recommend the Draw-Tite hitch because it does not require you to use stabilizing straps for non-trailer loads like the Curt alternative does. I have attached an installation video on the 2016 Jeep Patriot for you to look at.

Then for wiring, I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56333 to install a 4-way connector to power your trailer's signal lights. The T-connector will simply plug directly into existing wiring, located behind the side tail lights on your vehicle. I have included another installation video on your Jeep for you to check out.

For a ball mount, I recommend looking at the etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit # 989900. This kit includes two ball mounts with different rise and drops, as well as the two most common sized hitch balls. I have also attached an article that explains how to determine the best ball mount for your setup, along with a link that will take you to our available selection for you to look through.

The converter could be going bad on the Curt harness. I would try testing the wiring before the converter to see if you get good power there and then on the wiring right after the converter. If the harness needs to be replaced I would stick with the same T-Connector # C56333.
