The towing capacity listed for a trailer hitch like part # 75713 is increased to 7,500-lbs with a weight distribution system for your 2017 Durango RT. I did some research and found that your truck is capable of towing up to 7,400-lbs if it is a rear wheel drive and 7,200-lbs if it is an all wheel drive.
The # 75713 hitch is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2-inch receiver opening.
I have attached the towing capacity chart for a 2017 Durango from the owner's manual you can check out.
The best way to determine what system will work for you is to know what your total tongue weight is. The total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully-loaded-ready-to-tow trailer added to the weight of any cargo you place behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. You will then want to find a system where your total tongue weight falls near the middle of the tongue weight range for the system. Getting a system that is too small will be useless, but getting a system that is too big will result in a stiff, uncomfortable experience.
If you are going to be towing a trailer that is near the 7,400 capacity I recommend a weight distribution system like the Reese Strait-Line, part # RP66084. This system has a tongue capacity between 600 and 1,200-lbs and features dual-cam sway control that helps keep the trailer on the road when passing large trucks or facing high winds.
The hitch ball is sold separately so for a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball I recommend part # 19286 and for a 2-inch ball you can use part # A-90.
