Weigh Safe Ball Mount Scale is Between 0 and 100 with No Weight on the Ball Mount

Question:

Recently purchased this WS4-2 hitch. The static unloaded scale reads above zero. See photo. Is this normal? What is the expected precision of the scale +/- ? I have not yet tested with trailer weight.

In the pictures and videos we took of Weigh Safe ball mount # WS4-2 the scale was slightly above zero as well. The area below the 100 tick mark is the zero zone. The scales are calibrated to be accurate up to 1,500 pounds.

According to our technical contact at Weigh Safe the scales are calibrated to 1,500 pounds but remain fully linear all the way to their maximum of 3,000 pounds (at the top of the red scale). They choose not to calibrate those points above 1,500 pounds so as to encourage users to be conservative in the use of the mount.
