Recommended Swing Away Bike Rack For 4 Adult Bikes On Class III Hitch Receiver

Question:

I have read dozens of reviews regarding these swing bike racks. I have a concern with the Apex with the 2inch receiver adaptor. The shaft is still 1 1/4inch ? Whereas the Vertex is a full 2inch shaft ? I also believe the Yakima Full swing, has a full 2inch shaft ? What is your experience with these ? I plan on using it to carry 4 adult bikes, potentially hundreds of miles. I have a 2inch class 3 receiver purchased from you and want the best, strongest rack available. Thank you

For the strongest and best bike rack for carrying 4 adult bikes, I recommend using a bike rack with a 2 inch shaft. Yes, this limits your ability to use with a 1-1/4 inch receiver, but it does give you additional strength for a long road trip.

For your application, I recommend the Yakima FullSwing 4 Bike Rack - 2" Hitches - Swinging # Y02465. This rack is rated for up to 160 lbs versus the 140 lbs of the Thule racks or the 150 lbs of the SwingDaddy. It has the built in anti-rattle and lock. The TPE padding absorbs road shock and vibration. The cradles hold the bikes at 3 points and uses really nice and easy to use ZipStrip straps. This also has an integrated cable lock to secure your bikes. I've attached a video to assist.

If you have any alternative style framed bikes, I recommend the Yakima Tube Top Bike Adapter Bar # Y02531 to create a top frame rail between your seat post and handlebars. This will give you a level ride with greater ground clearance.

The FullSwing has many nicer features and less extra expenses to make this the best rack for your application.
