Question:
Will this work on a 2014 Ford Explorer XLT ... also what about scratching the paint? Will this bag rub on the back hatch? Should I put anything in between the two hatch door and bag making a 800 mile trip

The Rightline Gear Cargo Hatch Saddlebag, # RL100B90, can fit on the back of most SUVs if the vehicle has at least 40 inches of space between the rear taillights. A quick measurement of this area on your 2014 Ford Explorer will tell you if this cargo bag will fit.
As for the rubbing or scratching the paint, the back side of the bag is very smooth and there will be no issues with harming the paint. Rightline does recommend that you clean the rear area well to make sure there is nothing on the paint that could sit between the vehicle and the bag.
