Question:
I am pulling a Tiny Mite motorcycle trailer with my Miata. The two trailer tires have been upsized to 4.80x12. The trailer has a spare storage hole for a 4.80x8. I would like to use this storage. Is there any issue other than gros weight that would limit temporary use of the smaller 8inch spare with a 12?

The tire diameters are very different between the two sizes. The bigger size you have now of 4.80-12 is overall 20.5 inches tall and the older size 4.80-8 is 16.1 inches. Since that difference is split between either side of the spindle you'd have one side of the trailer sitting 2.2 inches taller than the other.
In a very short-term emergency situation you could probably limp home with that but I would highly recommend matching the larger tire size for a spare with something like the part # AM30670 for if you have a 5 lug hub or part # AM30630 if you have a 4 lug hub.
