How to Correctly Measure for Trailer Steps

Question:

Your presentation was helpful on choosing steps but my problem is the previous owner of my fifth-wheel flipped the axles so I need to add a step. How do I determine how many more steps I need? Thanks

In order to find the correct fit, you are going to have to do a little measuring. You will want to start by measuring the width of your current step assembly, followed by the height from step to step. After that, you will want to measure from the center of the step assembly at the crossbar to the diagonal line at edge of the bottom stair.

For example, the Lippert Manual Pull-Out Step, # LC432687, has three steps and measures seven inches at the bottom two steps, has a stair assembly width of 27-1/2 inches and measures 35-3/4 inches from the step assembly to bottom of stair.

The Alumi-Tread Manual Pull-Out Step, # LC432698, measures measures eight inches at the bottom two steps with a step assembly width of 28 inches and a measurement of 49-5/8 inches from center of step assembly at top to edge of bottom stair.

I have attached photos showing some of these dimensions, and also provided a link to a video which will display exactly what you need to do.
