To determine whether or not you will be able to pull your boat and boat trailer with your 2015 Chevrolet Equinox you will need to do a little bit of calculating.

In an online version of the owners manual for your Equinox it says that the GCWR (Gross Combination Weight Rating) for a 4 cylinder is 5,787 lbs for a FWD and 5,952 lbs if it is AWD. The GCWR will include the weight of the fully loaded Equinox, trailer, passengers, cargo, equipment, and conversions. The most ideal weight to have in the vehicle is just the driver. You will need to calculate the weight of everything in the list I just mentioned to determine whether or not you will be able to tow your boat and trailer.

The trailer hitch receiver that has the highest weight capacity for your Equinox is the Draw-Tite Max-Frame # 76028 which has a Gross Towing Weight (GTW) of 4,500 lbs and a Tongue Weight (TW) rating of 675 lbs. Please note that you will be limited to the GTW of 4,500 lbs even if your calculated weight alots for more towing weight.

You will also need a ball mount, hitch ball, and wiring. A great starter kit for towing is our Ball Mount Kit # 989900 which comes with 2 ball mounts, one with a 3/4" rise or 2" drop and the other with a 2-3/4" rise or 4" drop, 2 hitch balls which have a diameter of 1-7/8" and 2", and a pin and clip. You will want to check out the linked article on ball mounts to ensure that you choose the correct ball mount for your application.

That just leaves us with wiring. If your Equinox did not come with the tow package then I recommend going with the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118494. If your Equinox did come with the tow package then you will want to go with the Tekonsha part # 118264 instead. I have attached installation videos of both of these options being installed on similar Equinox for you to check out.

Both of those options give you a 4-Pole connector, however, if you are needing a 7-Way connector for your trailer then you will need to install our Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. This comes with everything that you will need for installation which I have attached another demonstration video for you as well.

If your trailer has brakes and you are wanting to utilize them then you will need a brake controller as well. I recommend going with the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. I have attached a helpful article on how to install a brake controller from scratch that you can use.

Be sure to consult your copy of the owners manual for any special instructions on towing.
