Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer with a Gooseneck Hitch

Question:

Considering C5gx1216 for 3500 Chev Silverado single wheel rear. Bought with Reese gooseneck hitch. Will adapter be ok with 8,000 dry 36 foot 5th wheel? Or, would it be better to install new rail package for 5th wheel hitch I already have. Thx

Expert Reply:

The Convert-A-Ball Adapter # CAB-C5GX1216 is rated for trailers up to 20,000 pounds. However, some trailer manufacturers void the trailer's warranty when this type of adapter is used because of the amount of stress on the frame. If you don't need the gooseneck hitch in your truck I recommend removing it and installing fifth wheel hitch bracket and rails.

For a bracket kit to fit your 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 you can use the Reese # RP56001-53.

If you'd like to add a 7-way trailer connector in the truck's bed to make it easier to hook up use # 20110.
