Platform Hitch Mounted Bike Rack to Use on the Back of an Airstream Trailer

Question:

I have an Airstream trailer with a 2inch receiver mounted to a sturdy tow bar. Im looking to carry 2 bikes. The Yakima HoldUp looks like a more formidable platform and mount than the Swagman XTC-2 from the images. Why is the Swagman recommended for use with an RV or camper, when the Yakima is not? What difference in the design favors the Swagman?

We do have bike racks that will work for you, however neither the Swagman XTC-2 # S64670 or the Yakima HoldUp # Y02443 are rated for RV use.

An RV or trailer has a lot more movement at the rear than a passenger vehicle does. This causes additional stress on any hitch mounted accessories like a bike rack. Rack manufacturers design and test certain racks to handle the additional stress.

With RV approved bike racks, you generally see fewer moving parts and won't have tilting or folding features as often. They're also constructed with stronger welds to make the rack more solid and stable.

We carry two hitch mount platform racks that are rated for RV and trailer use. The Swagman Dispatch # S44FR and E-Spec # S94FR.

The Dispatch and the E-Spec holds the bikes using ratcheting straps on the wheels and a hook for the frame. The major difference between the two is the capacity. The E-Spec can hold up to 70 pound bikes while the Dispatch is limited to 45 pound bikes.

If you need a wheel-mount rack, take a look at the Lets Go Aero V-Lectric FAT PRO Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # LGA77FR. This RV-approved, unique, rack secures bikes by the wheels and even works if the bikes have fenders. This rack holds bikes up to 75 pounds. It doesn't fold or tilt, but it does slide away from your vehicle when the bikes are attached.

Check out the videos of each rack to help you which one what is best for you.
