Is a Support Strap Needed When Using Curt Receiver Hitch # C11681 to Haul Bikes with a 2014 Accord

I am looking at purchasing the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4 Item # C11681 for my 2014 Honda accord. I am needing a hitch for my bike rack. My bike rack is a 2 bike Saris hitch mount. In some of the reviews it talks about needing to use a strap for stabilization. Is the strap necessary, I did not need one when using this rack on my truck. Also, my mount is 2 inch do you have the adapter need for my bike rack to fit. Thanks

If you were to install the Curt Class I Round Tube Receiver Hitch # C11681 on your 2014 Honda Accord you would need to use a Support Strap # 18050 to stay in compliance with the warranty from Curt. We tend to recommend Draw-Tite trailer hitch receivers, like part # 24899 which will fit your 2014 Accord, because Draw-Tite doesn't have that same stipulation. I have attached installation videos for both hitch receivers for you to use as a reference.

We do offer hitch adapters, like the Brophy Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver # HTAD which will allow you to use your Saris bike rack with a 1-1/4 inch receiver, but it will cut the Tongue Weight (TW) of your setup in half. Either of the previously mentioned hitch receivers have a 200 lbs TW capacity but if your Accord is rated for a lower TW capacity then you will need to cut that number in half. An adapter will also add some extra play in the hitch receiver while you are heading down the road as well.

If your bike rack and bikes are under that reduced TW capacity then you could very well safely use it. Depending on what bike rack you have there might be an adapter that connects directly to the bike rack that Saris makes. If you can let me know which bike rack you have I can check with Saris so that you might not have to use the adapter and you can retain full use of your hitch receiver.
