For your 2016 Jeep Patriot Sport, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Receiver Hitch # 75712. This Class III hitch is confirmed to fit your vehicle and will install using existing holes in the vehicle frame for a no-drill application. This will provide a 2 inch receiver opening and a towing weight capacity of 3,500 pounds. I recommend this over the Curt models also confirmed to work on your vehicle because unlike Curt, Draw-Tite does not require the use of stabilizing straps with non-trailer loads such as bike racks and cargo carriers.
I have attached an installation video on your 2016 Jeep Patriot that you can use for reference.
If you are looking to do any towing, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118552 to install a 4-Way connector. The T-One connector will plug directly into existing ports located behind the driver and passenger side tail lights for a simple installation. I have again included an installation video for you to check out.
For a ball mount, I recommend looking at the Convert-A-Ball # AMSC2. This can provide either a 3/4 inch rise or a 2 inch drop. If this is not sufficient for towing your trailer level, I have also included a link to our available selection of ball mounts along with an article that explains how to choose the correct one for your setup.
