Traction Device Options for a 2013 GMC Sierra with LT265/70/R18 Tires

My vehicle owners manual says do not use tire chains on the above vehicle and tire combination. The manual says that there is not enough clearance for chains. Is there another traction device that is safe to use with this combination of vehicle and tire size?

I do have an option for you but tire chains cannot be used on your 2013 GMC Sierra with LT265/70/R18 tires as you mentioned. Tire chains will extend out past the tread on your tires about 1/2". This creates a problem as they run the risk of interfering with brake lines and other components located outside the frame rail.

I recommend using a set of tire cables such as the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains part # PW2028C which have a much lower profile in comparison to chains and should not interfere with components mounted outside the frame rails. It is also recommended to use a set of rubber adjustment arms like the Glacier Multi-Arm Rubber Adjusters part # PW105 to make fitting and tensioning snow cables quick and easy. The cables only protrude past the outer tread of the tire 1/4".

We have tested these cables on a similar 2013 Chevy Silverado with LT265/65/R18 tires and did not have any issue in doing so. However, a LT265/70/R18 tire will be 5mm taller than a LT265/65/R18 but this should not matter as the main concern with tire cables fitment is width not height.

I have included a review and installation video of these tire cables for you.
