Can Hitch From 2009 Subaru Forester fit 2018 Subaru Forester?

Last year I purchased hitch 13147 for my 2009 Forester but never installed it. Now I am getting a new 2018 Forester. Will the hitch for the 09 fit, or can it be modified to fit?

Hitch # 13147 does not fit the 2018 Subaru Forester, and modifying it would hamper the integrity of the hitch as well as void the warranty. A great hitch for your 2018 Forester would be the Draw-Tite # 75876, which is a Class III hitch that would not require the use of stabilizing straps for non-trailer loads such as the Curt # C13144.

To add a 4-flat connector, I recommend using the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118467. If you are going to be towing, I recommend checking out Ball Mount Kit # 989900, which may fulfill your towing needs in one tidy package; two ball mounts – one with a 3/4” rise or 2” drop and the other with a 2-3/4” rise or 4” drop, a 1-7/8” hitch ball, a 2” hitch ball and a pin and clip.

In order to choose the correct ball mount, you will need to take a couple quick measurements first. With your Forester parked on level ground, measure from the top of the receiver opening to the ground; your trailer should also be parked on level ground, and you'll need to measure from the bottom of the coupler to the ground. If the height of your hitch is greater you'll need a ball mount with the appropriate drop. Should the height of your coupler be greater, you will need a ball mount with the right amount of rise.

I've added links to video reviews of these products, as well as a help article on ball mounts for you to take a look at.
