Based on what you are asking this question from, it looks like you are looking for a platform style rack. If you don't already have a trailer hitch receiver, I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # 24914 which is a confirmed fit for your 2014 Mazda 3 Hatchback. Your vehicle only can use a Class I hitch receiver, so we will need to look at compatible bike racks.
If you have front fenders on your Townie bike, I recommend the Swagman Chinook 2 Bike Platform Rack - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount - Tilting # S64683. this will cradle the wheels and hold the bike by the frame. This will work great on bikes up to 45 lbs each.
Some of these racks have locks and others do not. If you need a cable lock, I recommend the # e98891 to secure your bike to the rack and hitch through the chain hoops.
For a heavier bike, you can use the Thule T2 Classic 2 Bike Platform Rack - 1-1/4" Hitches - Tilting # TH9045 which can hold two bikes with a single bike max weight of 60 lbs. This rack has the wheel cradles to lock in place, and will work well if you do not have a front fender. If you have the front fender, then I recommend the Saris Freedom EX 2 Bike Platform Rack - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # SA4412F which will also fit bikes up to 60 lbs. I've attached videos to assist.
