Recommended Wiring Harness for 2017 Toyota Highlander

Question:

I just purchased a 2017 Toyota Highlander. I am interested in a wiring harness. How do I know if it already has the converter under the hood?

Helpful Expert Reply:

If your 2017 Toyota Highlander came with the factory tow package, you will have a converter under the dash. If the vehicle came with a factory 7-Way connector and a trailer hitch, it likely has the tow package. If it did not come with a 7-Way and trailer hitch, then most likely it does not have the tow package or the converter under the dash.

The most accurate way to determine what your Highlander came equipped with is to simply visit your local Toyota dealer with your VIN. They will be able to run this number and tell you exactly what was installed at the factory.

If you find that you do not have the tow package and the converter, you will want the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118449. This is custom-fit and will connect directly to built-in ports located underneath the spare tire compartment. I have attached an installation video on your 2017 Highlander that you can use for reference.

If you do in fact have the factory tow package and converter, you will instead need the Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness # 56042. This will connect to the factory tow package port located behind the driver's-side interior trim panel in the rear cargo area. I have attached the written installation details for this harness that you can check out.
