Question:
As the recess hole in this particular backing plate is not centered, does it matter in which direction the plate is positioned? For example: In our application an enclosed trailer with a plywood floor, a ratchet strap over a car tire will be attached to the recessed D-rings on either side of the tire. Should the backing plate be installed with the recess hole closer to the tire or farther away from the tire? Weve already marked the locations but want to be sure before we drill the holes. Thank You!

The backing plate can be placed as needed as long as it can be installed properly. As long as the strap is secure, it will not make much difference which way the hole is oriented. I recommend having it placed in such a way as to be further from the tire which would allow for a little more flexibility of what size item you could place in the space between them.
