Converting 1997 Dutchman 6-Way Square to 4-Way Flat
Question:
Hi! I have a 1997 Dutchman pop up camper that has a 6-way square connector coming out of the trailer. My truck has a 4-way flat. I purchased the Jayco 6-way square to 4-way flat adapter, without realizing that Jayco referred to a type of RV and the wiring connection is not consistent with the 1997 Dutchmen. When I connect the Dutchman to my truck using that adapter, only the right rear running light comes on. Question - can I just cut the 6-way adapter part of the Jayco part off and connect those wires to the 6 wires running from my Dutchman, and plug that straight into my trucks 4-way flat? If so, what is the wiring connection required? Thanks!!

Jayco does have their own system. I recommend cutting the harness as you stated and connecting them to a 4-way flat trailer connector to be compatible with your truck. To do this, you will simply need the Hopkins Endurance 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector - Trailer End - Ergonomic Design # HM48110 and a few butt connectors like the Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector - 22-18 Gauge - Nylon Insulation - Red - Qty 10 # DW05743-10.
You may need to test each trailer wire for function using a battery and then connect the functions to the wire configuration of the 4-way pigtail:
Yellow - left turn and brake
Green - right turn and brake
Brown - tail
White - ground
