Can Draw Tite 18 inch Hitch Extension HE18 Flat Tow a Vehicle Heavier than 4,000 lb
Question:
I just received the RP11004 Reese Towpower 18inch Hitch Box Extension. It appears to be a well-built product. I plan to use this extension to extend my RB9050 Ready Brute Elite towbar beyond the lowered tailgate of my 2017 F350, 6.7 diesel, short bed with OEM factory hitch. The tailgate is lowered to carry my 8.5 Alaskan 2000lb camper. Ill attach the tow bar to the BX1126 Blue Ox Base Plate mounted on my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport with a curb weight of 4055lbs plus 120lbs of gas. I thought I had done my homework when I purchased the HE18, reading it had a capacity of 4000 lbs. When the extension arrived, I was surprised to see the sticker said 3,500, I must have confused it with another extender. Also will this have a higher capacity when used with weight distribution systems.. Can I flat tow my Jeep with this setup? If not, do you have any suggestions on how I can make it happen? Thanks ...

Helpful Expert Reply:
You are going to be fine using the part # HE18 because you are flat towing a vehicle which doesn't have the same type of stress on a hitch like trailer does since there isn't tongue weight.
The # HE18 extension cannot be used with a weight distribution system. it has a gross trailer weight capacity of 3500 lbs and a max tongue weight capacity of 350 pounds.
