Towing 5th Wheel Trailer With Gooseneck Hitch in a Flat Bed on a 2003 Dodge Ram 3500

I have a 2003 Dodge dually 3500. I just recently put a CM flat bed on it. I am looking to get another 5th wheel camper and wanted to know the pros and cons but most of all the safest way to tow with a goose neck adapter without the added stress to the RV frame. The RV we are looking at has a pin weight of around 2200# Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

The best 5th wheel trailer to gooseneck hitch adapter is going to be a Reese Goose Box that will replace the pin box on a 5th wheel trailer. But there are a few things to consider.

First is fit. There are 3 Goose Box models that fit in place of specific pin boxes so if the trailer does not have one of the listed pin boxes then it is a no-fit situation.

16K Goose Box # RP94716 for Lippert 0719, 1621, 1621HD and Fabex PB-600 Series pin boxes
16K # RP94716-61301 for Lippert 0115, 1116, and 1716 pin boxes
20K # RP94720 for Lippert 1621, 1621HD, and 0719 pin boxes

If you do have a listed pin box then the other thing to consider is the placement of the gooseneck ball. If the ball is recessed below the bed then the opening around the ball will have to be large enough for the Goose Box coupler to fit and rotate. A good 10 inch radius from the center of the ball would be plenty.

Any other adapter, such as Convert-A-Ball adapter # CAB-C5G, would increase the stress on the trailer frame.
