Installing Magnetic Lighting on Towed Jeep To Allow Jeep Lights and Magnetic Light Functions

Question:

I tow a Jeep behind my motorhome. Pollak 7 pole to 4 round kit. Works fine Because I donetimes carry covered bicycles behind the Jeep, the Jeep tail lights are not seen properly. I want to plug in roof mag lights. How do I plug into the Jerp electrical kit that came eith the towing harness. I think I have to double up the ‘outs’ of the different diodes, but not quite sure.... Thanks

The Heavy Duty Magnetic Tow Lights - 20' Wiring Harness with 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector # TL21RK can be connected to your Jeep at the back for a standard trailer connection. You can splice the 4-way into your vehicle wiring like you mentioned, and that will give you both your vehicle lights as well as the magnetic light function. Your Jeep may be able to use a T-connector to make this a much easier connection.

If you already have the wiring for your Jeep to tow a trailer, you can simply connect the magnets to that connection.

A final option is to bypass your Jeep lighting and connect the magnet lights directly to the Motorhome. This will only give you the function of your magnetic lights, but will work and give the drivers behind you visible lighting.

Question:

Thanks, I already have the setup for towing a trailer behind my Jeep. Using the 4 way flat connector to feed the mag lights does not work. When towing my Jeep, the Blue Ox kit bypasses the existing electrical system and feeds the rear lights via 4 diodes. Obviously, diodes are one way only by definition. I think I have to double up the out side of the diodes and connect the mag lights connecting plug to that feed. This means I would have 2 connecting 4 flat : one for the trailer when my Jeep is pulling, and one for the mag lights when the motorhome is towing the Jeep. Do you agree ? Thanks

Since you stated the 4-way flat connector already on your Jeep does not work when your vehicle is being towed, you will need to add more diodes as you stated to the outside of the diodes to get that second 4-way flat for the magnetic lights. You can use the Tail Light Isolating Diodes (Qty 4) # 48955 for that application.
