Will the 7 Inch Trailer Hub/Drum # 8-173-16UC3 Fit on a 1987 MGS Handyman Cargo Trailer

The hub I need to replace is a Dexter of the same dimensions, but the bolts thread into the hub instead of having studs. Is this a new improved version of what I need? I have to replace it because the threads are stripped-out. 1987 MGS Handyman cargo trailer with 8X10 tires, electric brakes.

It sounds as if the wheels that are on your trailer are hub piloted, meaning that the center of the wheel is mated to the outer diameter of the hub not on the mounting studs. In this case the dimension of the hub protrusion is critical for balance of the wheel and tire.

At this time we do not carry hub piloted hub and drum assemblies. You may find that these style hubs are only available from the trailer manufacturer.

The # 8-173-16UC3 Hub and Drum Assembly, would work for your trailer if you changed your wheels over to wheels that are stud piloted. The Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10 inch White Wheel, # AM3H370, would most likely be the wheel and tire combination for your trailer with a 2000 lb axle. I have included a link to all of the 4 on 4 bolt pattern wheels and tires that we stock.

You will need to remove one of your hubs and check the inner and outer bearing numbers and the seal number to be sure the Hub & Drum Assembly, # 8-173-16UC3, will fit on your trailer spindle and you will need to measure the bolt pattern of the wheel, see link, to be sure your bolt pattern is 4 on 4 inches.
