2013 Smart Car Flat Towing Component Installation
Question:
I plan to use: SM99251 SM99602 BX1987 BX7380 RM-751437 RM-15267 RM-766 I can not find Smart car detailed instructions for SM99251, SM99602, or RM-751437. I need to know where to locate the control unit for the SM99251, and where to tap into the vacuum system, and what wires to use for power and brake light. What is the best location for the break away switch? I can find no instructions for the SM99602. How does it attach to the brake pedal, and where does the actuator cylinder mount? I can find no instructions for the RM-751437. Where is the brake light switch, and how does the new one mount. What wires does the RM-15267 need to grab, and where is the best place to mount connector for the cable to the motor home. Why does this installation need the RM-766? Help please. Thanks

For your 2013 Smart fortwo, I will walk though the parts listed to confirm fits and compatibility to assist. The Blue Ox base plates # BX1987 is a confirmed fit and will work well with the Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar - Motorhome Mount - 6,500 lbs # BX7380 you referenced which comes with the safety cables.
For your tow bar wiring, the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 is an excellent choice to give you the clean connection and utilize your factory wiring while protecting your system. You will want to utilize the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch for Towed Vehicle w/ Supplemental Braking System # RM-766 to allow you to disconnect the battery as required with a flip of a switch.
For your supplemental braking system the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # SM99251 is a wise choice. It installs easily and gives you a plug and play system after the initial adjustment at installation. You will need the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751437 to alert you in your motorhome when the brake pedal of your Smart is being applied. You will also need the brake pedal adapter # SM99602 because this extension adapts the system's actuating cylinder to attach to a floor-mounted brake pedal. I've attached the installation details for the light switch. The brake pedal will have the adapter connected directly to it so the actuator will have the proper angle to activate the system. The anchor for the actuator must be about 1 inch up from straight in line with the actuator. The stoplight switch will need customized mounting so that the plunger is compressed when the pedal is depressed.
The G-force controller box must be mounted within the passenger compartment and must be mounted in a certain orientation and level. The SMI logo must face the passenger and the switch must face the rear of the vehicle. The vacuum line will be the black with green hose pictured. The breakaway switch should be mounted near the baseplates.
The final thing you need that you didn't reference is a high low adapter. I've attached an article to help you determine fit and have also linked the page for your convenience.
