How Loud Will MagnaFlow Cat-Back Exhaust # MF16937 Be On My 2004 Lincoln Aviator
Question:
I am looking for a cat back system for my 2004 lincoln aviator. From what Ive seen and read the system improves gas mileage which is what Im looking to do. However, many people are excited about the growl that they get. I am not looking to make the car any noisier, and would much rather have quiet mufflers. I bought the car to enjoy its comfort and dont want it to sound like a race car Thats what my mustang is for...which btw in the next year I am going to get a new exhaust system for...do you make something with an x-pipe for a 93 GT??. With all of that said, is there some sort of setup avaialble for the dual cat-back system for the Aviator that is quieter but still has the MPG gain? Also, I had a 2004 Taurus with the DOHC motor and it said that I should not put dual exhaust on it. Is this the case with the aviator? If I can do duals, do I need to do anything different with tuning/etc...for O2 sensors and such? Please fill me in so I can move forward with an order! Thanks.

I contacted our representative at MagnaFlow about the MagnaFlow Stainless Steel Cat-Back Exhaust System, part # MF16937. He informed me that all the exhausts that they develop are designed to be under 95 decibels from outside the vehicle and to reduce drone inside the vehicle. Also, with the amount of sound deadening material on an SUV, that should help reduce some of the noise. But, with any custom exhaust application, there will be a difference in noise.
I have driven SUVs with similar custom exhaust applications, and the sound to me was a minimal increase. The amount of noise you get will be noticeable, but not deafening, and should be more of a rumble or growl like you described. If noise is a concern, perhaps you should steer away from custom exhaust.
The representative at MagnaFlow informed me that there is not a dual exhaust system available for your 2004 Aviator. Part # MF16937 is the only exhaust available from MagnaFlow that will fit your vehicle. For a dual exhaust setup, it would have to be a custom fabrication by a qualified exhaust shop.
The instructions for part # MF16937 do not indicate any type of tuning needed after installation of the exhaust. You would want to contact your dealership for information on tuning or resetting the ECU after an exhaust upgrade. Some vehicles may require that the ECU be reset.
The 2 exhaust systems we have available for a 1993 Mustang GT include the MagnaFlow Exhaust, part # MF15632, and the MagnaFlow Exhaust, part # MF17118.
I have linked an FAQ on MagnaFlow exhaust for you to review.
