Ladder Rack for 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 with BAK Tonneau Cover Compatible with Rooftop Tent and Kayaks

Question:

Hello, I drive a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 6.5ft bed. Im looking for stake pocket side rails to use as a base for roof rack cross bars. Id like to carry two kayaks, a roof top tent, and recovery equipment. Total weight for all that would be between 250 and 350 pounds. Do you think this rack could be adapted to my needs? Im looking for something that goes into stake pockets because I have a Bak industries RollBak tonneau that I want to be able to use with the rack system. Most bed rails Ive seen do not have a load rating so I am cautious about using them in this way. Thanks for your help!

The Rack'Em Rack for Truck Bed Side Rails has been discontinued, but wouldn't be a good option for what you are trying to accomplish anyway. To carry items like kayaks and a roof top tent you will need a stronger foundation such as a ladder rack.

All of the BAK tonneau covers offered for your 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 with 6-1/2-foot bed, shown on the linked page, mount inside the bed rails so you still have the ability to use a ladder rack that mounts on top of the bed rails.

The perfect option is the TracRac SR Sliding Ladder Rack # TH43002XT-781 which mounts on top of your bed rails where it will not interfere with your BAK tonneau cover.

What is important is that the SR allows you to move the uprights and crossbars to the spots where they can best support any given cargo load. When using a tent, for instance, you can slide the bars to the positions where they best support the tent base; for longer items like kayaks slide then further apart for the best support.

The USA-made TracRac ladder rack offers no-drill installation, includes tie-down cleats, load stops and a hefty 1250-lb weight rating.
