Recommended Trailer Hitch and Wiring for 2018 Chevy Equinox

I am trying to decide which of these hitches to mount on my wifes 2018 Chevrolet Equinox... it will be primarily used to carry a scooter/power-chair carrier, but we may tow a suitable trailer at some point also. I am looking to learn what additional components I will need, ie: wiring harness, stabilizing parts, and whatever else may be required. A few dollars difference isnt a concern, ease of installation appears to be similar in your videos so I guess Im asking if there are intangibles between the two hitches that may favor one over the other. Your insight will be very much appreciated... thanks in advance,

There are indeed two Class III trailer hitches available that are confirmed to fit your 2018 Chevy Equinox (as long as you don't have the Diesel model). Both the Curt # C13307 and the Draw-Tite # 76419 will have very similar installation processes, as you noted, and will provide you with a 2 inch receiver opening.

Between the two models, I recommend going with the Draw-Tite Class III # 76419 for a couple of reasons. First, the Draw-Tite hitch actually features a higher towing weight and tongue weight capacity. Even though you likely will not actually utilize these higher capacities, this simply points to a hitch that is a bit more durable in design. Also, unlike Curt, Draw-Tite does not require you to use additional stabilizing straps for non-trailer loads, such as your scooter carrier or a bike rack.

I have attached an installation video on your 2018 Equinox that you can use for reference.

Then for wiring, if you do not have the factory tow package and your Equinox is not the Premier model, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118750. This custom-fit harness will install by connecting directly to the built-in ports located behind the driver and passenger side tail lights. This will give you a 4-Way connector at the rear of the vehicle to connect with and power a trailer's signal lights. If you do have the Premier model, you will want part # 118759 instead. And finally, if you do in fact have the factory tow package, you will need # 118285.

I have attached the installation instructions for these harnesses that you can also check out.

Tow tow a trailer, you will also need a ball mount. I have included a great article that explains how to choose the correct one for your setup, along with a link that will take you to our available selection.
