Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2017 Ford Edge Titanium without Adaptive Cruise Control

Question:

I currently have a 2017 Ford Edge Titanium w/6cyl engine. It does not have active cruise control. My motor home has a Falcon2 Roadmaster Tow bar. Can I use any base plate such as Roadmaster EZ4 Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms Item # RM-524444-4 to hook to the RV or must I stay with Roadmaster? Do you have a preferred base plate assembly for my car? Thanks for your help.

The correct Roadmaster base plate kit you need for a 2017 Ford Edge Titanium without active cruise control and a V6 is the part # RM-524454-4 that you referenced. This base plate is perfectly compatible with your Roadmaster Falcon 2 tow bar part # RM-520 that you have as well. These two would work great together.

For safety cables you can use # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.

For lighting you can use the diode kit, # RM-15267, and not have to worry about cutting into the taillight housing. This will splice into your taillight wiring to allow your tow vehicle to control the taillight assemblies of the towed vehicle. This comes with a round 6-way connector that you will install on the front of your towed vehicle and enough coiled wire to go from there to the RV.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles. With this you'll also need the stoplight switch kit part # RM-751475 and the 12 volt outlet kit part # RM-9332.

Most likely you will also need a high low adapter so that the tow bar will be level when you are flat towing. I attached a link to a page that has all of the ones we carry.

I have included a couple of helpful links to our articles on flat towing for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for more specific information on flat towing your vehicle.

You are correct, the Falcon 2 that you have will easily connect to either the EZ4 or the EZ5 and it would be just a matter of your preference. The same bar of your tow bar will be the correct bar to use with the # RM-524444-4.

I prefer not using the crossbar and going with the simpler EZ5 part # RM-524444-5. It's just one less thing to remember/set up.
