What is Needed to Use the BrakeRite Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator with a Factory Brake Controller

Question:

I have a 2013 Ford F250 with a factory installed brake controller. Will I need anything extra to make it work? Also what is the difference between a T4843700 and a T4843800 conversion kit?

Helpful Expert Reply:

The factory brake controller in your 2013 Ford F-250 should have an electric over hydraulic mode that will need to be activated in order to work with an electric over hydraulic actuator. However, if your brake controller is not equipped with this feature then you will need to use the Titan BrakeRite EHB Adapter for Ford/Chevy Integral Brake Controllers part # T4846000.

The Titan Disc Brake Kit and BrakeRite Electric-Hydraulic Actuator part # T4843800 is the exact same kit as the other you mentioned just the updated version. The main difference is that the EHB actuator has its control board built within the unit whereas the discontinued BrakeRite II does not.

Question:

What #s do you need so I have the correct bearings and seals for my trailer spindles. It is a 2011 forest River Rockwood with ALKO torsion axles 363628 H8

I called my contact at AL-KO which is now Dexter and they were able to tell me that you have a 3,500 lb torsion axle that uses an L68149 inner bearing, L44649 outer bearing, and 10-19 grease seal.

Therefore, as long as you have 14" or 15" diameter wheels that uses a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern then the Titan Disc Brake Kit and BrakeRite Electric-Hydraulic Actuator part # T4843800 will work well for you. You can check out an installation video of this kit which I have attached for you.

Question:

Which controller is best? The Hydrostar or Titan and which one is most compatible with a 2013 F250?

1

Helpful Expert Reply:

Both HydraStar and Titan brake actuators are going to require an adapter to work with the factory integrated brake controller on your 2013 Ford F-250. If you are using a HydraStar actuator you are going to want to use part # HBA-CAM and if you are using a Titan actuator you are going to want to use part # T4846000.

With that being said, it is hard to really say that one is going to work better with your controller as they both require an adapter. I recommend going with the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator part # HBA16 because it has a 2-year warranty compared to the Titan actuator which only has a 1-year warranty. In addition to warranty, the HydraStar actuator is made here in the U.S.A and the Titan actuator is not. Aside from these two key differences they are both very similar actuators in function/design.
