From the picture that you sent me it looks like you could possibly use a quick link like part # 49135 and leave it connected for easy access to hook up your safety chains when towing.

The Fulton Safety Chains Quick Link # 49135 is a 1/2" link that is rated for up to 10,000 lbs Break Strength and 3,300 lbs Safe Working Lead Limit. This would be a great option for your situation and would make connecting and disconnecting your safety chains much easier.

You can verify if this will fit your safety chain loops by comparing the following dimensions with what you have.

The gap when the safety chain is in the "opened" position is 9-/16" which you will want to compare to your loops. The overall inside length is 3-1/4" and the width is about 7/8" wide. I have attached some pictures for you to reference.
