Replacement Motor and Gearbox for Kwikee RV Step Using Motor 151332 and Gearbox 151320

Question:

Hi, the motor quit working on my electric step. The plate on the motor is inscribed with 151332. The Gearbox is inscribed with 151320. I need to replace the motor but not sure which motor to use. Can you help? It is off a 1997 Holiday Rambler Vacationer.

If your RV step's motor is dead (no operation even if you bypass the switches and directly apply 12V power to the motor terminals) then it will require replacement. Your gearbox may still be okay so long as it has not made bad noises when it last operated. If the step gearbox made any unusual mechanical noises like popping or grinding sounds then it too may be damaged. Thank you for the part serial numbers you provided.

My contact at Lippert Components, who makes the Kwikee steps, advised that for mid-90s step motors there is a replacement motor available only for those parts that show number 5973820. If your motor shows this part number then you can use replacement motor part # LC379608. If it does not have that specific item number then there is no longer a replacement motor and you will need to replace the entire step unit, according to my Lippert contact.

I linked for you our main page for RV electric step units. These are available in several widths, from 23-1/2-inches on up. For instance, for a Kwikee 32 Series Double Tread Electric Step use part # LC372261 which is 24-inches wide.

We can definitely provide you with the linkage assembly, but to ensure I recommend the right part, do you happen to know what model Kwikee Steps you have?

As mentioned above, it's really hard to say for sure if the Replacement Motor # LC379608 is the correct unit for you without knowing the actual motor number. If you can't find a number on the motor at all it's very possible that there's no longer a replacement option available and the whole step assembly will need to be switched out.

My Motorhome doorstep seems to be dead. I tried a direct 12-volt hookup but it still would not run. I can't remove the motor with the step retracted. How can I manually extend the step? The single-step unit is welded on the coach frame. Removing the entire step would be difficult and costly if done by a service dealer. Please advise. thanks: Tom

@Thomas Since the motor will not function you are going to need to try and disconnect the linkage which connects the gearbox to the steps. This is going to be a pin with cotter pin retainer on the step.
