Does Installation of Curt Class III Hitch # C13073 Affect Factory Warranty on a 2012 Kia Sorento LX

Question:

I am nervous that installing an aftermarket trailer hitch and trimming the heat shield will nullify the warranty. I thought you guys would know better than the dealer. What do you think? Thanks

There is actually a Federal Law called the Federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. This Act states that if something breaks on your vehicle and you take it in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty unless whatever modifications you have added to your vehicle actually caused the probĀlem in question.

Because of this law I would not worry about adding an aftermarket trailer hitch or trimming the heat shield voiding your vehicles factory warranty, unless you overload the trailer hitch.

When using the Curt Class III 2 Inch Hitch, part # C13073 on your 2012 Kia Sorento you will want to stay within the towing weight capacities of the vehicle and of the hitch. The Curt hitch has a gross towing weight capacity of 3,500 lbs and a tongue weight capacity of 350 lbs. You will want to check your vehicles owners manual for the towing capacity of your 2012 Kia Sorento.

I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Curt hitch. It will show where and how much of the heat shield will need to be trimmed.
