Weight Capacity and Bike Rack Options For 2018 Nissan Rogue

Question:

Thanks for the answer. Since the max tongue weight I need to go by is 110lb, does that mean the bikes, rack, and the hitch itself (around 30lbs) need to be under 110 lb? Or is it just the bikes and rack that need to be under 110lb?

In that question, the customer may have been referring to the towing capacity of their vehicle being a maximum tongue weight of 110lbs. That information can be found in your owners manual. So even if Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75902 has a 3,500 pound towing capacity and 350 pound tongue weight capacity, the towing capacity of the vehicle takes precedent. So the lowest of the two numbers is what you go with in regards to towing capacity. So please check the towing capacity in your owners manual to get started.

My favorite bike rack to recommend is the Thule Apex Swing part # TH9027XT because it can carry up to 4 bikes and can swing out and away from the rear of the vehicle to give you complete access to the rear cargo area with bikes loaded. The total weight capacity is 150lbs. The arms of the rack can also fold down when not in use so that the bike rack doesn't take up much space as well. However,if the weight of 4 bikes are too heavy in regards to tongue weight. You may want to consider putting 2 bikes on your roof and the other 2 bikes on your hitch.

Since the max tongue weight I need to go by is 110lb, we need to be sure the bikes and the rack are under 110lbs. If you are following the recommendation to put to bikes on the hitch and two on your roof, I recommend the following products. RockyMounts MonoRail 2 Bike Platform Rack # RKY10004. The carrier weight on this product is 52 lbs. I intentionally picked a bike rack that is somewhat lighter on the trailer hitch. In regards to roof racks, if you have factory installed rails that run front to back, I recommend the Yakima system. You need the CoreBar crossbars # Y00421 and TimberLine towers # Y33TR.
