For your 1991 GMC Sierra Stepside, I recommend taking a look at the Curt Class IV Receiver Hitch # C14081. This hitch is confirmed to fit your truck and will use existing holes in its frame for a no-drill installation. Just note that the spare tire will need to be lowered or removed temporarily when mounting the trailer hitch. This particular hitch features a 2 inch receiver opening and a towing weight capacity of 10,000 pounds. I highly recommend checking the owner's manual for your truck to see what its specific capacities are, as you will simply need to follow the lower of the two ratings - the vehicle's or the hitch's.

I have attached an installation video that you can use for reference, along with the complete written instructions for the hitch.

If you do not yet have a trailer wiring harness installed on the vehicle, I recommend the Hopkins T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM41115 if you have the Crew Cab or the T-One Harness # 118315 if you do not have the Crew Cab. These are both custom-fit harnesses that will install by connecting directly to built-in ports located under the truck on the driver side. This will provide you with a 4-Way connector to connect with and power a trailer's basic signal lights. I have included the installation instructions that you can check out.

Finally, in order to tow a trailer you will need a ball mount and hitch ball. I recommend the Curt Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mount # C45341, which features either a 3 inch rise or a 4 inch drop. You can then add a compatible hitch ball like the 2-5/16 inch # 63840 or the 2 inch # A-90, depending on what you need for your trailer. If the rise or drop on this ball mount is not sufficient to tow your trailer level, I have attached a great article that will help you pick out the perfect ball mount for your setup.
