Recommended Trailer Hitch and Wiring Harness for a 2017 GMC Acadia
Question:
Im going to help a friend install a hitch and trailer wiring onto his 2017 GMC Acadia FYI, not an Acadia Limited meaning his is the new design of Acadia, not the carry over model from 2016 that they named the Limited. I notice that your wiring options all state for factory tow packageinch in the title. Does this mean that all 2017 GMC Acadias have a factory tow package or does this mean you do not offer a kit for a non-factory tow package...or something else? Im checking but do not yet know if his Acadia has factory tow package. Also, do you have any pictures of an installed Curt hitch C13293? I see images of the Drawtite hitch, but none of the Curt. Im guessing it hangs down below the rear fascia instead of tucked behind it? Does the Curt allow the little plastic panel on the bumper cover to stay in place whereas it needs removed permanently on the Drawtite?

All of the 2017 GMC Acadia's came with the factory tow package wiring. In order to add a trailer connector to the vehicle you would want to use part # 118720 for a 4-way or part # 118276 for a 7-way. These custom fit connectors will plug into your factory wiring harness which is located behind the access cover at the center of your rear bumper. In order to mount the connector to a hitch you will first need to use part # 18140 and then part # 18144 for the 4-way connector or part # 18138 for the 7-way connector. I have attached an install video of both harnesses on a similar 2017 GMC Acadia for you as well.
I have also attached a photo of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13293 installed on a 2017 GMC Acadia for you. As you can see, it does indeed hang down below the rear lower bumper fascia. The rear lower bumper fascia will not need to be trimmed or removed for installation of this hitch.
