Bolt Pattern and Recommended Wheel and Tire for Salt Water Boat Trailer with ST175/80r13 Tires

Question:

I need to replace the tires on my boat trailer salt water so I figured I just do the wheels and tires. Galvanized is a must. My tires are ST175/80r-13, but my question stems from the 5 Lug Pattern of the Wheels. I have measured the lugs at 4.25inch 112mm apart. Have I mismeasured? Also, I measured the outer diameter of the hub not the wheel hole at 2.5. Do I need to go back and remeasure that too? Seems like my measurements are not in line with the information on any of the sites Ive looked. As you guys are pretty specific about your trailer wheels and tires I thought I just rely on the experts to make sure I dont mess up my trailer or boat. Boat is a 17foot Tracker Magna oldie with an Evinrude 60HP. So it isnt that heavy a boat. Thanks for your help.

It would be odd for the 4-1/4 inch measurement to be accurate. I've attached an article on measuring bolt pattern for you to confirm your bolt pattern before ordering. If you do end up with the same measurements, you may want to consider changing out your hubs as that isn't a standard size.

Based on your wheel size, I believe you will have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern and recommend the Provider ST175/80R13 Radial Tire w/ 13" White Spoke Wheel - LR C Finish # TTWA13RWS. This tire is rated for weights up to 1,360 lbs at 50 psi. It is also rated for speeds up to 81 mph.

The Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" Galvanized Wheel # AM31994 has a load range of D and are also a good option but may have too firm a sidewall for your lighter weight boat.

Question:

I re-measured the lugs and my original 4.25” was wrong and your 4.5” is right. So what do you guys have for an economy minded customer (aka cheap bastard) for galvy wheels with 5 lug at 4.5” spacing to have a good ST175/80-13 tire. It’ll go to a trailer hauling a 30 year old Tracker boat so it doesn’t need to be all that pretty. Heck, previous take offs would do. I’m not that vain. Thanks.

I'm glad that we have a solution for you. My recommendation is the Taskmaster ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire w/ 13" Galvanized Spoke Wheel # AS13B45GS. This is a quality tire and rim rated for 1360 lbs at 50 psi and speeds up to 81 mph. I've attached a video review to assist. I believe this is the best combination at the best price for what you need.

If you want a higher capacity we have the Loadstar ST185/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire with 13" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D # AM3S334 also rated for 81 mph but for loads up to 1,710 lbs at 65 psi.
