Recommendation For 5th Wheel Hitch For 2009 Chevrolet Silverado HD
Question:
I have a 2009 chevy silverado 2500 HD. I know its older but may have to do. I am looking @ hauling 30-33 ft. fifth wheel. Can the old girl handle that if not what do you suggest? Also if it can handle it what accessories are essential for hitch and such.

Depending on the total loaded weight of the fifth wheel you get, your 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD should work for you. I did some research and found that GM has given the 2500 HD a maximum fifth wheel towing capacity of 16,700-lbs. What exactly are your limits will be determined by your vehicle model. Make sure to check your owner's manual for capacities and recommendations.
If you have a 6-1/2 foot bed, I recommend the Demco Fifth Wheel Sliding Hitch, Item # DM8550034. You will also need the Demco Base Rails and Custom Installation Kit, Item # DM8552012-71. This fifth wheel hitch slides automatically as you drive and gives you 14 inches of additional clearance for tight turns. It has wraparound jaws that give a smoother ride and greater security. It has a maximum weight capacity of 18,000-lbs, a vertical load limit of 4,500-lbs, and adjustable hitch height settings (15-1/4 inches, 16-1/2 inches, 18 inches). I also recommend adding the Demco Wiring Harness with 7-Pole Plug, Item # DM8555002, into your truck bed to simplify hookups.
If you have a 8 foot bed, I recommend the B&W Companion Fifth Wheel Hitch, Item # BWRVK3500-5W. You will also need the B&W Custom Installation Kit, Item # BWGNRK1067-5W. This fifth wheel hitch is sturdy, has fully articulating head to make hookup easier, dual jaws that securely hold the king-pin, three height settings, and a hitch height from 16-1/4 inches to 18-1/4 inches. I also recommend adding the Curt Wiring Harness with 7-Pole Plug, Item # C56000, into your truck bed to simplify hookups.
Before going forward with your project, I encourage you to check your owner's manual for capacities and recommendations so that you get the right equipment for your towing needs.
If these options will not work for you, let me know and I will make other recommendations.
I am attaching additional information and videos for you to check out that will assist with your project.
