Adding a Brake Controller to a 2008 Ford Edge

I just installed your T One wiring 118551, to control a Camping Trailer’s break/turning lights. Can you please tell me what I need to control the Camping Trailers breaks. Thanks

To upgrade your T-One Vehicle Harness, part # 118551 so your camper trailer can use its brakes, you'll add a brake controller.

To add the brake controller, you'll first install kit # ETBC7. This kit is a universal upgrade kit to add a 7-way and 4-way kit using your existing 4-way connection. I've included a video of this installation on a 2011 Ford Edge so you can get an idea of the process. This includes installation of the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885, though the process for this installation will be almost identical for all brake controllers.

Even though the P2 is great, I recommend the more user friendly Tekonsha P3, part # 90195 which includes a digital LED screen that helps relay better, more actionable information. I've also included an installation of this on a 2016 Ford Edge for comparison's sake.

Both the P2 and P3 are proportional control, applying a percentile of the brake power you apply to the tow vehicle's brakes. This is a safer system because you have better control over how you stop and slow the vehicle by using the controller to adjust how much pressure is applied to the trailer brakes.

When installed, this kit will interact with your trailer's onboard brakes, letting you safely pull the camper trailer.
