Comparison of Class III Receivers Available for 2009 Ford Escape

I have a 2009 Ford Escape limited and I am wondering how the no drill needed trailer hitch compares to the one that requires drilling in terms of durability? Which one is best for my Escape?

Expert Reply:

Of the different hitches available for your 2009 Escape, I would recommend the Curt Class III # 13650 or the Draw-Tite Class III # 75751.

Both require no drilling or welding and include the compete hardware along with installation instructions.

In the installation instructions, Curt recommends using a drill or Dremel tool to enlarge an access hole in the frame. This hole is used to fish a bolt and block washer into the interior of the frame member. However, since your Escape is 2007 or newer, this does not apply to you. The end of the frame is open, so the hardware can be ran through the end of the frame with no drilling or hole enlarging necessary.

I have provided links to the install instructions for both hitches and an install videos for the Curt hitch on a 2010 Ford Escape. While it is not the same model as your vehicle, the installation techniques are similar.
