Can Class I Hitch Carry 50 lb Bike Rack and 2 Mountain Bikes
Question:
Is a 50 pound bike rack too heavy for my 1.25 inch class 1 hitch? Especially with 2 high end mountain bikes on it.

Helpful Expert Reply:
The class I hitches for your 2018 Honda HR-V have a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs. So with a 50 lb bike rack you'd have 150 lbs of capacity left over. The Kuat NV part # NV12G that you referenced weighs 52 lbs and is one of the nicest bike racks available. It has a 60 lb per bike capacity as well plus a built in repair stand as well. So this would be under the 200-lb limit.
However, we now have the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # 306-X7322. It has a 300 pound limit and gives you many more choices for bike racks. For a 2" compatible bike rack like the Kuat NV # NV12G, I recommend the Kuat NV 2.0 # NV22B.
