I spoke with my contact at Roadmaster who said that the Automatic Battery Disconnect # RM-766 has to be installed on the positive battery terminal. The reason given in the owner's manual for your 2017 Ford Edge is that "You need the door
key to lock and unlock doors when the battery cable is disconnected" (see page 238).

Whether you disconnect the positive or negative battery cable the result will be the same; you will have to use a key because the key FOB won't work with the battery disconnected. My contact at Roadmaster said that the way batteries used to be designed required the negative terminal to be disconnected due to safety reason, but that batteries now are completely safe when disconnecting the terminals and the manufacturers just haven't updated their manuals. Ultimately the decision is up to you though.

For a wiring kit that connects to the lights on your Edge you can use the Hopkins Wiring Kit # HM56011 which plugs into your existing wiring and provides a 4-Way connector at the front of your Edge.
