Would a Hitch or Roof Rack be a Better Option for Bike Rack on 2018 Honda Fit?

I have a 2018 Honda Fit EX and I was wondering whether it would be better to put a Bike rack on the roof or Hitch Mount for when I put my bike on the car? I dont plan to do long trips, mainly stay local within my town or surrounding areas.

I recommend using a hitch and hitch-mounted bike rack on your 2018 Honda Fit for a couple reasons. The first is convenience; it is going to be much easier for you to mount your bikes on a hitch-mounted rack as opposed to a roof rack where you'd have to lift the bike on top of your car as opposed to simply placing it in the hitch rack. The other reason is cost; a roof rack will be far pricier than a hitch, and you can either pocket those savings or use it to get a premium bike rack.

As for the hitch I recommend using the Draw-Tite # 24920 which is a Class I, 1-1/4" hitch which is a complete bolt-on installation so no drilling in your Honda's frame will be required. For the bike rack there are a couple of options I recommend taking a look at.

If you only needed to carry a single bike the Thule T1 # TH9041 has a capacity of 65 lbs and can accommodate bikes that have a wheelbase of up to 48" and tires that are up to 5" wide. It is a wheel-mount carrier that uses a ratcheting hook to secure your bike by the front wheel as well as a sliding rear wheel cradle that uses a ratcheting strap to secure the wheel. The T1 also folds up with the use of a lever and comes with an integrated cable lock to secure your bike to the rack and anti-rattle hitch lock to secure the rack to your Fit.

Should you need a 2-bike rack or have a front fender on your bike which would not allow you to use a wheel-mounted carrier like the T1, I recommend checking out the Yakima OnRamp # Y36FR. This rack has padded clamps with ratcheting straps which holds bikes by the top tubes as well as ratcheting straps in the wheel cradles to secure your bikes by the wheels. The OnRamp has a spring pin which will let you fold the rack down, even with the bikes on, to access your rear cargo area. It also comes with a cable lock and anti-rattle hitch pin lock which will allow you to secure your investments. The rack has a weight capacity of 66 lbs per bike and will accommodate bikes with a maximum wheelbase of 50" and a maximum tire width of 3.25".

I've added links to video reviews of each of these products for you to take a look at.
