Question:
I noticed the Curt brand says you need stabilizing straps for Bike racks, etc on the Class II hitch. Is this true of all Class II hitches or only Curt? Also, how much more visible is the Class II vs. Class III hitch on a Ford Escape? Thanks!

Only CURT Mfg. requires the use of a stabilizing strap, # 18050, for non trailer loads on their Class I and Class II trailer hitches, but it is a good idea to help eliminate the stress that bike racks and cargo carriers place on the hitch and vehicle frame.
In my opinion the added flexibility of the 2 inch receiver, # 13650, is the way to go if it is available when installing a hitch on your vehicle. The hitch is only more visible in as much as the receiver portion is larger, but the ability to use many more accessories in the 2 inch hitch is the deciding factor for me.
