Can I plug in a brake asst patriot into the edge passenger side 12 volt plug. Then do I still need a battery disconnect to Flat tow

I took a look at the online owners manual for your 2017 Ford Edge. It does state that you will need to disconnect the negative (black) cable from the battery before flat towing the vehicle. Because of this, you will won't be able to use the 12V plug on the passenger side to power the braking system. I do also recommend checking your copy of the owners manual for any additional restrictions or guidelines before proceeding.

In order to use the excellent Blue Ox Patriot Braking System # BLU37TR, you will just need to add the 12V Outlet Kit # RM-9332. This will provide the needed power to the braking system, as it attaches directly to the battery terminals and gives you an accessory outlet to plug into. For your Ford Edge, you will also need to add the Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751475 for the unit to operate correctly.

I have attached a couple short video demonstrations on the Outlet Kit that you can also check out.

I do recommend using the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect # RM-766 to allow you to conveniently disconnect the battery when needed. A charge line, ( # RM-156-25 - sold separately), is also a good idea when you have a braking system that is using power from the towed vehicles battery while it is disconnected.
