2018 Ford Explorer XLT 4 and 7-Way Recommendation

Question:

I do not have the OEM tow package on my 2018 Explorer. I would like both a 4 flat and 7 flat connector ..... HM40975 looks like it would be ideal. The Curt 56306 wiring harness looks like the best way to fit a 7 way connector to my existing vehicle wiring harness. What interface connector would I need to mate the Curt 56306 to the HM40975? Also, will the above harness and connector have all the wiring needed to power electric brakes on my trailer? I have a brake controller and am unclear what wiring Ford provides on 2018 Explorers that do not have the factory installed TOW package. Any recommendations you can provide would be great. Thanks,

For your 2018 Ford Explorer the Hopkins 7 and 4-Way kit you'd need is the part # 118272. This will plug right into the square connector you have at the rear of the vehicle and will give you a 7-way you need. To convert it to a 4 and 7-way then you'd need the part # HM40975. I attached an install video for this connector on a 2018 Ford Explorer just like yours for you to check out as well. You will need to install a brake controller too to activate the trailer brakes.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller part # 90195. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes. This will be the last brake controller you buy. It can easily be transferred to future vehicles as well.

For an install harness you'd then want to use the part # 3035-P and you'd be set. This plugs right into the port under your dash.
