Trailer Hitch and 7-Way Wiring Recommendation for 2009 Ford E-350

Question:

Hi, I have a 2009 Ford e350 that I would like to set up to tow. It was sold from the factory to a conversion company who set it up as a high top handicap van. It appears that there is no factory wiring for tow lights, although there does appear to be a plug for the brake controller under the dash. Currently, I do not need electronic brake control, but the trailer I am planning to tow does have a 7 plug no brakes on the trailer, though. I believe I have the hitch I need picked out, but I was hoping for some recommendations with regards to wiring. I may someday need electronic brakes, but I currently have no need for them in the near future. What is the best way to accomplish this? Is it possible to have the lights hooked up properly without running a powered line all the way to the battery, since I dont need electric brakes? Install time is a primary concern. I just need lights on a small trailer, and a 7 plug to hook it up. Thanks in advance,

The Draw Tite hitch # 41945 thtat you referenced is the correct hitch for your 2009 Ford E-350. For trailer wiring you'd need to start with a 4-way like the # 118551 which does require a wire ran to the vehicle battery. Not all vehicles can handle the additional amperage draw of the trailer taillights on the vehicle taillight circuits. Those vehicles need setup that draws power from the battery. Some vehicles have higher rated circuits that can handle this, and others need to have the power drawn straight from the battery to protect the taillight circuits like yours.

Now if your trailer does not have brakes all you would need is the part # 37185 as an adapter to convert the 4-way to a 7-way.
