How Far Out Does the Malone Axis Truck Bed and Roof Load Extender # MPG907 Extend
Question:
I have a Dodge 1500 with a 6.5foot bed. I would like to carry two 10foot 5inch Kayaks in the bed and use this extender to help support them. However, it looks like quite a bit of a gap between the support upright, and the tailgate when it is in the open position. When my tailgate is open my length is with bed and tailgate is 84inch which means Ive got about 22inch to the tip of the Kayak.

On the Malone Axis Truck Bed and Roof Load Extender # MPG907 the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the furthest edge on the carrier is 53 inches. So to the nearest part of the up right it will be approximately 51 inches. By my calculations your 10 foot, 5 inch kayaks will overhang the bed by 41 inches. That means if you were to slide the kayaks all the way in the upright on this carrier would still be about 10 inches away. All of the similar extenders are a bit too long as well.
You might want to instead consider using a tailgate pad such as # TH824PRO or # TH823PRO. This will allow you to protect both the kayaks and the tailgate and secure the kayaks to the truck bed. they can also be used for bikes or other cargo as needed. I have linked a video review for you.
